Health Disclaimer
ScanVeer provides consumer information for educational and general wellness purposes. Scores reflect ScanVeer's assessment of available product information and scientific evidence and may change as evidence or formulations change. A score is not medical advice and is not a guarantee that a product is safe, unsafe, healthy, unhealthy, or appropriate for you. Always verify important information on the product label.
What ScanVeer is
ScanVeer is a consumer information tool. It gathers product information from public databases and from people who add products, compares that information against published scientific and regulatory evidence using a documented method, and presents the result as a score, a tier, ingredient flags and alternatives. It is a way to compare products and ask better questions. It is not a health service.
What ScanVeer is not
- Not medical, nutritional, pharmaceutical or dermatological advice. ScanVeer does not know your health, your medications, your pregnancy status, your age or your allergies beyond the preferences you set on your device, and it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition.
- Not a laboratory test. ScanVeer does not test products. Its information comes from labels and databases that can be incomplete, outdated, mistranscribed or wrong, and a product on a shelf may differ from the record ScanVeer has.
- Not a safety certification. A high score does not mean a product is safe for you. A low score does not mean a product will harm you. Scores compare products under a general-population method; they are not personal risk assessments.
- Not an allergen guarantee. Allergen and preference matches depend on ingredient text that may be missing or incomplete, and on "may contain" statements that databases often lack. Absence of a warning in ScanVeer never means an allergen is absent. If you have an allergy or intolerance, read the physical label every time and consult your clinician.
- Not a substitute for a professional. For decisions about medicines (including over-the-counter drugs), dietary supplements, infant or child nutrition, pregnancy, chronic conditions, or any symptom, talk to a doctor, pharmacist, registered dietitian or other qualified professional.
Evidence changes
Scientific understanding of ingredients evolves. Regulators re-evaluate additives, new studies are published, and manufacturers reformulate products. ScanVeer scores, flags and evidence summaries therefore change over time, sometimes in either direction. The Scoring Methodology explains when and why. A flag is a statement about the evidence ScanVeer has reviewed, not a statement that a product has caused, or will cause, harm.
Emergencies
If you or someone else has a suspected allergic reaction, poisoning or other medical emergency, do not consult an app. Call your local emergency number (911 in the United States) or a poison control center (1-800-222-1222 in the United States).
Your responsibility
You are responsible for decisions you make about what to buy, eat, apply or use. By using ScanVeer you agree to the Terms of Use, which include this disclaimer and limit ScanVeer's liability to the extent the law allows.
